What is Botox?
Botox® is the trade name for Botulinum toxin, one of the most popular FDA-approved cosmetic treatments. Botox is used to decrease the appearance of aging and temporarily relax facial muscles to help smooth facial lines, creases, and folds. The result is a more refreshed, younger-looking you.

How does Botox work?
Botox is a neurotoxin that is used to treat facial wrinkles by blocking the transmitters between the motor nerves that innervate the targeted facial muscle. During the procedure, a small amount of Botox is injected directly into the facial muscles that correspond with wrinkles and lines. Common areas that are treated with Botox for wrinkles are the forehead, between the eyes (glabellar region, “the 11’s”), around the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet) and radial lip lines (smokers lines). Once the motor nerve endings are interrupted, the muscle cannot contract, causing wrinkles in the skin to smooth. The effects of Botox are visible within 2-10 days and last approximately 3-4 months.

What do facial fillers do?
As skin ages, it begins to lose collagen filled with hyaluronic acid (HA), which leads to sagging and wrinkles. FDA-approved facial fillers are smooth injectable gels made from naturally occurring HA that are injected into the dermis of our skin to instantly lift, sculpt, and contour the lost volume in our face. Fillers work not only to add volume, but to also stimulate collagen growth, thus allowing for a non- surgical face lift and a more relaxed and smooth facial appearance.

How long do facial fillers last?
Facial filler treatments typically take 30 minutes in the office. The amount of dermal filler needed will depend on volume loss and the areas you would like to restore to its natural beauty. The results are immediate, long-lasting and natural-looking. The exact length of results provided by facial fillers vary based on the type of filler and other factors, but on average, last up to one year (lips tend to last for 2-3 months).

Dr. Nevins did a thorough review of my medical history and then gave me an exam.
We were able to define a first step that made sense. He also put to rest some of the fears that had been caused by the first provider.
